A solar powered vehicle is an electric vehicle with solar panels, which captures the solar power that is used for moving the vehicle. The solar energy is changed into electrical power by the photovoltaic cells. Solar powered cars are mainly used for demonstration, engineering exercises and solar automobile races. The use of solar power like a fuel for cars is gaining high significance as the fossil fuels are acquiring depleted at fast rates. The remainder of the up-to-60-mile range from recharges originates from six 12-Volt lead acid Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries. Regenerative braking assists maintain them recharged after there's an aboard charger, with a 4 to 6 hour recharging time.

Solar car kit is generally used for converting a conventional car to run on solar energy. These kits are available in the market at an affordable cost. A solar kit can be virtually installed on any type of car, but  it is very easy to convert electric powered cars to run flexibly on solar power. It is very complicated to install solar kit on a standard Gas-powered car.
