In 1952, the FireDome became DeSoto's solution to the ending of the large family members cars powered through inline six cylinder engines. Underneath the hood from the four-door, six-passenger sedan was a powerful Hemi-Head V-eight engine producing 160 horsepower which was able to propell the FireDome to a top speed of around 100 mph.
