Aston Martin DB5, also called as James Bond car, is one of the luxury sports cars, built by a British manufacturer, Aston Martin. Launched in 1963, the Aston Martin DB5 is the first as well as the most renowned cinematic car of the James Bond franchise.
The Aston Martin DB5, one of the most renowned cars in the world, has been presented in numerous films, most notably, Thunderball, Goldfinger, Tomorrow Never Dies, GoldenEye and Casino Royale. It has appeared in several video games such as James Bond 007 : Agent Under Fire, James Bond 007 : Blood Stone, 007 Racing and From Russia with Love. It was used by famous actor Roger Moore who played a parody character in James Bond's film “The Cannonball Run”.
Known as the “Real Q”, the Oscar winning special effects genius, John Stears created the deadly DB5 for use by James Bond in Goldfinger. In the world of James Bond, the DB5 was used again a year later in the film, Thunderball. A different Aston Martin DB5 was used in 1995's Bond film, Golden Eye where he used three different DB5 for filming. Yet another DB5 was presented in Casino Royale of 2006 which came with the steering wheel on the left side unlike the previous British versions.
The car used in the film (Goldfinger) was the original DB5 prototype. They used another standard car for stunts and two more modified versions for publicity tours after the film's release. This car has a rear bullet-proof shield, front machine gun, and an operating front passenger ejector seat. The car also included an oil slick sprayer and a nail/calthrop spreader. Furthermore, it has futuristic goodies such as a radar and mobile phone receiver. The standard equipments on the DB5 comprised wool pile carpets, magnesium-alloy body made for superleggera patent technique, twin fuel tanks, reclining seats, electric windows, oil cooler, the leather trim in cabin and a fire extinguisher. All DB5 models have 2 doors and 4 seats.
One of the James Bond's Aston Martin DB5, was sold in January 2006 for $2,090,000 at an auction in Arizona to an anonymous European collector. This specific car was originally sold in 1970 for £5,000.
